Pirfenex, Pirfenidone is a drug used in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis from the time when it was being developed by InterMune for this purpose. It has been declined to approve by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Later on, InterMune announced that an advisory panel to the European Medicines Agency recommended approval of the drug.

Indications:

Pirfenex, Pirfenidone is indicated for the treatment of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which is an under-recognized, rare, progressive disease of the lungs with unknown aetiology and high mortality. It is also indicated for the prevention or removal of excessive scar tissue which is common found with injured tissues including that of lungs, skin, kidneys, etc. It helps in inhibiting the progressive enlargement of fibrotic lesions or stops to form new fibrotic lesions associated with tissue injuries.
